Pascal Sentenac graduated from the cinema faculty of the Ecole nationale supérieure Louis Lumière (the French national Cinema, Photography and Sound Engineering School) in 1993. He began his professional career as an assistant cameraman before becoming a fully-fledged cameraman and finally a Director of Photography for both cinema and television. After many years of applying his audio-visual and scriptwriting skills to complement the vision of other drama and documentary producers, he began to embark on more personal projects that led him to develop his own themes and visual universe, notably through still photography, which he rediscovered in 2008. In parallel, he began extending the potential of the medium by exploring complementary narrative modes such as video installations and multimedia displays. Similarly, he regularly collaborates with artists in other fields, including musicians, visual artists, sculptors and cinema/theatre directors. In all his creative work, he constantly questions the efficacity and impact of the chosen medium and aesthetics on his target audience.
Diplômé de l’École nationale supérieure Louis Lumière (section cinéma) en 1993, Pascal Sentenac commence dans la profession en tant qu’assistant-opérateur, cadreur puis finalement chef opérateur et directeur de la photographie pour le cinéma et la télévision. Après avoir mis ses compétences en image et en scénario au service des esthétiques des réalisateurs pour des fictions et des documentaires, il commence une recherche personnelle qui le conduit à explorer ses propres thématiques et univers visuels avec la photographie, qu’il redécouvre en 2008. Il ouvre conjointement le champ des possibles en investissant d’autres modes narratifs tels que les installations vidéo et les dispositifs multimédias. Il collabore par ailleurs régulièrement avec d’autres artistes : musiciens, plasticiens, sculpteurs, metteurs en scène. Chacune de ses productions interroge par ailleurs les effets des dispositifs et des esthétiques choisis sur les spectateurs.
